Tall Strollers for Tall Parents 6

Strollers are designed with a one-size-fits-all-parents approach. Hence it’s hard to find strollers for tall parents. Pushing too short a stroller forces slouching and can cause tall people back pain, the last thing needed in early parenthood. Luckily, there are some strollers out there that happen to be taller, sometimes via adjustability. The best of these are listed below under the categories of standard, jogging, umbrella, and double strollers. There’s also a section on stroller handle extensions for tall people. So if you’re looking for tall strollers for tall parents, you’ve come to the right page.

Stroller handle height is obviously the most important determinant for tall people when selecting a stroller. But in addition to this, it’s also important to make sure a stroller has ample foot clearance such that our longer legs aren’t hitting the stroller as we pick up the pace. All handle heights on this page are maximums as listed by the manufacturer unless otherwise stated.

Standard Strollers for Tall Parents

A standard stroller is the most common type. It’s intended for common daily activities, like a walk to the park or trip to the mall. This is the kind of stroller my girlfriend and I decided on. After considerable research, we ended up with a Britax B-Ready, which has the handy feature of accepting infant seats. The handle adjusts from 33″ to 44″. This range of adjustability works for both of us (she’s 5′8″ and I’m 6′7″). To the best of my knowledged, 44″ is the highest handle height for this type of stroller.

However, I recently found out about Peg Perego Book and Booklet strollers. Although their handles are a bit lower, there are extensions that can be purchased. You’ll have to double check this, but it looks to me like multiple extensions could be linked together for really tall parents. I’ll cover other extensions a bit later.

Tall Umbrella Strollers for Tall Parents

For those occasions when a standard stroller is too bulky, there are umbrella strollers. These can fold up really small so they can fit in tight spaces, like a packed car trunk. However, in their quest for compactness, the designers of these strollers have robbed tall parents of previous handle height. The tallest umbrella strollers for tall parents are the Joovy, UPPAbaby, or Baby Cargo, all of which have 42″ handles.

Tall Jogging Strollers for Tall Parents

Jogging strollers tend to have higher handles as this helps when jogging. So even though you may not be a jogger, you might still benefit from a jogging stroller. They also tend to have ample leg clearance given a jogger’s longer strides. I took notice of this greater clearance myself when I tested out a Bob Revolution Pro with it’s 45″ handle. A couple other tall jogging strollers for tall people are the 45″ BumbleRide and lofty 48.5″ Mountain Buggy Swift Terrain.

Tall Double Strollers for Tall Parents

There are double versions of all three of the stroller categories covered so far. If you’re willing to go for the jogging type, then you’re in for a treat. BOB makes two different strollers that come with a whopping 50.5″ handle height. These are the Revolution Flex Duallie and Strides Duallie Fitness Strollers. If a jogging stroller isn’t your thing, then you might go for the B-ready I mentioned above, which can be converted into a double stroller.

Stroller Handle Extensions

Unless you’re a lot taller than me (6′7″), chances are you can find a tall stroller that suits your needs and has a high enough handle. But if you already have a stroller that is too short, then you might want to extend the handle.

As far as stroller handle extensions you can purchase, there are only two I know of. The first is found on a website called Handle Extender. Please note that it might not work for all strollers. The second is the Peg Pergo adapter I mentioned above. There are of course a variety of handle extensions for joggers, but these are intended to extend more back than up.

Another option is to build your own stroller handle extension. If you search the web, you’ll find all kinds of ideas for DIY stroller handle extensions. Bike parts like handle bar ends can be used in a cinch. Umbrella strollers are particularly easy to extend. For instance, a couple of canes and some hose clamps can do the job. The guy in the video below did an even cheaper version with some conduit pipe. Check it out, I guarantee you’ll get a chuckle if nothing else!

What about the jogger pushchair with the most torso room, because tall parents have tall babies! My little guy is almost at the top of his seatback of 52cm and it’s really hard to find anything for tall toddlers!
    Thanks

Hi Groovy, that is a difficult one. The challenge of searching for the best strollers for tall kids with long torsos is that manufacturers don’t spec the back length on their sites, so it’s a matter of going around to all the shops and measuring with some kind of consistent technique. That’s not something I’m going to be able to find time for these days… If it was me, I’d probably be trying to modify something. My kid is soon going to be too tall for his stroller, but he’s also almost three, so time to move on…
      Best of luck to you.

Are there strollers for tall parents with tall children? Seems like most strollers have the canopy almost on top of my grandsons head and he is 2 yrs old. Searching for a new stroller…

The B-Ready worked great for me and my son. He’s low 90’s height percentile, still able to use it at 3 years old.

This is very helpful while I’m searching for a stroller for my tall guy. He’s 6’6″ and I’m 5’10” which until recently only was a discussion for making sure we had enough leg room wherever we go. Now, he’s expecting his first grandchild next month, and he wants a stroller we both can use easily. We both prefer an umbrella style since it will store easily, so these tips have helped narrow our search! Thank you!

Hi! Any recommendations for the ultra-foldable strollers like GB Pockit but for tall parents? My husband kicks the GB Pockit so we are looking for a replacement. Thanks!
