Standard Yoga mat length is about 68″. This means anyone over 5′8″ won’t be able to stretch out fully on their mat in Savasana. And really tall people might start to have issues in wide stance poses like warrior II, wide-legged forward fold, and downward dog. So this is where an extra long yoga mat for tall people can help. It’s also helpful to have some extra width too in poses like wide-legged child’s pose. The following are some possible options.
Giraffe Athletic Extra Long Yoga Mat

More Extra Long Yoga Mats
If you still haven’t found a good length Yoga mat you are pleased with, there are a couple more options. There is the big mat by Lululemon. And for the tallest Yogis among us, there is an over 100″ Yoga mat from Ruth White Yoga.
Extra Long Yoga Mat Etiquette
An article in the Boston Globe about Yoga etiquette had a bit from Glen Cunningham, co-owner of Sadhana Yoga that said, “Keep your big mat at home for your home practice”. I can see why this would be true for people that don’t actually require the space to properly do poses. But for the tallest Yogis, I feel they should be afforded the extra space, just like we should be—but aren’t—in airplanes. It’s a matter of inclusivity. One technique that might help is to arrive early and place your mat tight into a corner.

Hi I really appreciate your research. by looking at this page I have found more than 1½ hours of research + what I did a year ago when I bought a 190 cm mat.
I was also loooking into “custom size yoga matts” but aside from alibabas minimum order size 1000, I did not manage to find anything.
you see I am a fairly tall guy at 196 cm (6’4″) and I need lenght and width. The ones you found provide either but not both – for what I am looking for. I might be going overboard but I also kind of want to make a statement. I have long arms and fairly long legs. I think, if I had to chose I would go for something above 250 cm and 1 m wide. That me talking without having measuered it out comepletely. I can’t get used to constantly correcting myself when at one point we need to lie face down then the next put feet in the ground for a reverse dog. and since I alreade have a traditionally “long matt” I feel like going for something a bit extreme like this. and it should not be thin either. I need knee protection without it being a pilates matt. so something that is 0,2 cm to compensate for the weight – is out of the question. furthermore I also do yoga in a heated room so i both need good grip which means discount is not an option, and a towel that fits.if colour is an option then something either balck/violet/blue/bordeaux is fine.
Do you have any Idea where I can go? I wish Manduka made a 96″x35″x4mm.
Wow, those are some specific requirements! I’m not sure off hand, but I’ll keep my eyes open for you!
Omolbech,
Have you found a suitable mat since you posted last year?
We are the same length, and your experience resonates with mine.. so keen to hear which matt (and towel) you have ended up with.
Thanks!
Alex
Hello,
In case someone still needs an answer to this:
I’m basically researching the same thing.
Maybe gorillamats or square36 have something for you. They both have extra large workout and yoga mats. Gorillamats is closed cell and square36 open cell. For me neither is an option because I want a closed cell one and for gorillamats I’d have to pay delivery and customs to Europe…
