Their campaign includes both a long sleeve shirt and a hoodie. You might be asking: Aren’t there already a lot of tall men’s hoodies and shirts out there, why are these so special? The answer is as follows:
- These clothes are specifically for men who are both tall and slim, a traditionally under-served market.
- They are designed and made entirely in Vancouver, Canada, of all places. So no sweat shops etc.
- The fabric is 87% bamboo, a highly renewable material.
The whole bamboo thing I find particularly bamboozling. I mean, isn’t bamboo like, a stick? The kinda stick that can give some nasty slivers? Wouldn’t it follow that bamboo cloth would at least be a little itchy? Quite the contrary! This is some of the softest, best draping fabric I have come across. To think that it is one of the more environmentally friendly fabrics out there too, it appears a wonder material has been found.
Except… it is a tad on the pricey side. However, the current Kickstarter campaign brings with it a hefty discount, so now would be a good time to do some bamboozling yourself.
In case you’ve been a hermit for the better part of a decade, Kickstarter is a crowd source funding site. What this means is that you will be helping Navas raise funds to ramp up their business. They set a target amount of funding, and the project only launches (you’re billed and receive the clothes) if the goal is met. But you get a good price and partake in the launching of a company you value. It’s a win-win situation.
I’ve personally tried out a bunch of their clothes in the past: Introducing Navas. Their current offering is in fact a second generation item. The Hawkins 2 has some huge improvements over it’s predecessor, particularly the stitch work. It is now on level with the other items I’ve tried from them, which have held up great for the better part of a year now. The Hawkins 2 is a high quality garment right down to the zipper.
As far as sizing, I find their XLT fits me best (I’m 6′7″ and 215 lbs). It works well for my slim frame, as advertised. I do find the sleeves to be a tad on the long side, but they’ve tightened up the cuffs for generation 2, making this a non-issue.
As far as colors available through the campaign, they are a bit limited at the moment. But if you check out their website, you’ll find some of Navas’ other items in some pretty nifty textures and colors. My personal favorite is their blue heathered Hicks hoodie with it’s unique panels and pockets.
Let’s join together as a crowd and fund this project so they can keep making us awesome threads for years to come!
