Tall men’s dress shirts can be hard to find, particularly for tall slim guys like myself. And of all the problematic clothes for tall men, dress shirts are the most critical. This is because they’re a rather technical garment and also because they affect our professional appearance.
To get enough length, we tall slim guys reach for xl and sometimes even xxl dress shirts. The result is not so good. First, there’s what’s called a muffin top where fabric billows out around the waist. No amount of tucking in can help with that. The collar can also be too loose, arms too baggy, and shoulder seams hanging down the arms. And despite all this, there still might not be enough length.
If you’re a tall slim guy like me, then you’ve probably just gotten used to this kind of fit. But it doesn’t have to be that way. They’re a number of options for dress shirts for tall slim guys popping up, and on this page I’ll be introducing them. FYI, here are my own measurements:
- Height: 6′7″
- Weight: 215 lbs
- Waist: 35″
- Chest: 39″
The next option I’d like to list is a recent startup by a family with over 35 years experience manufacturing clothing. Their dress shirts come in tall and extra tall. They are suitable all the way up to 7′1″. American tall also does jeans, pants, t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, and blazers. I tried out their tall men’s dress shirts myself and found a medium tall fit pretty good (if anything, a bit on the snug side). As far as quality, it is definitely worth the high-end price tag; it’s Italian made with some details usually reserved for bespoke. The material blend is mostly cotton, some nylon, and a bit of spandex to get that form fitting look. You can check out their shop to see what other styles they have or read more here: American Tall
For those hard to fit people, another option is custom. You might be thinking this is probably too expensive. But the price has been coming down. Hockerty, for instance, has a base price of $59. As you work your way through their system, you’ll see there are virtually infinite possible designs you could make. Some people will appreciate this while others might find it overwhelming. I fall under the latter category. Nevertheless, I was able to get a pretty sweet tall men’s dress shirt made.
